This research aims at studying the porcelain plates of Princess Bahiga Hassan preserved in the silverware museum of Abdeen palace. Princess Bahiga Hassan is the daughter of Prince Hassan Ismail, son of the khedive Ismail, son of Mohamed Ali Pasha.
The period of Mohammad Ali's family is one of the most important historical Islamic periods. It witness a great opening to the west with huge desire of the members of the royal family to imitate the European traditions of daily life, reflecting the social status, the luxury and the richness enjoyed by this family through an infinite heritage both in architecture and applied arts, especially tableware and special items of daily life. It is worth noting that all the porcelain collection exhibited in the Abdeen silverware museum are all imported from Europe (England, France and Austria) and not locally manufactured.
The research presents a descriptive study of the plates, and it tackles the manufacturing of the plates including the forming and the decorative techniques, as well as an analytical study of the decorative ornaments of the plates.
